Mentees > What are the mentoring platforms?

  • The question & answers­ – You can ask many mentors questions on the site.

    One to one video conferencing ­– Matches you with one mentor after you and the mentor have filled out a psychometric test .

    STEP 1. Register your interest as a mentee and fill out your profile with as much detail as possible.

    f you have a Linkedin profile use our handy Linkedin app to transfer your profile data. Your profile will appear in our mentor directory, which mentees will use to request your mentoring services.

    Step 2: Take our matching psychometric test.

    Research has shown that the mentoring relationship produces the best outcomes when the mentor and mentees are matched on personality factors as well as career factors. The PropellHer platform uses a personality­profiling tool based on the Big Five Personality Traits of Extraversion, Openness, Agreeableness, Conscientious and Resilience. We use the results from the tool to match mentees and mentors, based on the traits that compliment each other.

    As a benefit for becoming a mentee you will receive an in depth report explaining your personality preferences. This is a confidential report which is not shared with your mentor. Your mentor will also use the personality profiling tool and receive a report. Their report provides a great point for discussion for the mentoring session.

    STEP 3. Send a mentor request and schedule your first mentor meeting.

How does the mentor/mentee match making process work?

  • Both mentors and mentees stand to gain the most from the program when:

    • Mentees select potential mentors they feel inspired by
    • Mentors review the mentee requests and shortlist their ideal candidates
    • PropellHer makes match between mentor and mentee based on the mentor’s shortlist and notifies all involved by email through the platform
    • Step­-by-­step support is offered to all participants, at all stages of the program

How much do mentees pay to take part in the service?

Mentees > Can I email a mentor directly?

  • You can only contact a mentor by clicking submit Q&A button on the mentors page.

How can I make sure my question isn’t public?

  • Once you click on submit Q&A and you type in your question in the box below, you can click the box “Ask anonymously” and your question gets published on the site but it won’t say who it is from.

Question and Answers, you understand the value of this service but you are unsure as to what and who to ask a question?

  • One of the biggest benefits to having a Mentor is receiving relevant and tailored solutions to your questions. But like all rewarding things in life, you need to give a little to get a little. In order to gain the most from your Mentee experience, it is important to think about what kind of answers you would like to receive and why. If you feel overwhelmed as to how to frame a question, it might be helpful to take a moment to ask yourself, “What am I actually trying to find out and why?”

    Once you are clear of your own expectations, you should consider what your Mentor knows about you already, if anything. Everything that you write is like a personal signature, so you want it to be a positive reflection of yourself. Ensure that your grammar and spelling are correct to demonstrate that you have put consideration into your question. Remember, there’s a 200 character limit to questions, so be polite, patient and most of all, clear.

    Get to know your Mentor

    Read your mentor’s profile, their bio and review their skills. Take a look through their career history so you have an understanding of their professional journey. Begin by asking them a few questions about their career. This will help you understand the kind of direction they can give you.

    What demonstrates a good question?

    Give your mentor a bit of background about your professional aspirations. Remember to keep it relevant to the information that you want to receive and avoid getting too personal.

    “How do you like being an Accountant?” ✘

    “I’m interested in becoming an Accountant, but I’m unsure of what area I’d like to specialise in. What was your initial career goal when you graduated? Have you achieved it or have you found a different path? What helped you decide?” ✔

    “I want to be an engineer and I’m looking for grad jobs. What do I do? It’s making me anxious.” ✘

    “I graduated from Civil Engineering in June. I have six months of experience with X Company. I’m looking to apply for graduate jobs in August. Do you have any recommendations as to what information I should be including in my CV?“ ✔

    Once a mentee has completed their personality­profiling tool, they are able to browse the mentor directory. The mentor with the best fit will be highlighted in the directory. The mentee then clicks request mentor for a match to be made.

    Once a mentee has requested you as a mentor their profile will be sent to you for acceptance.

    Click accept and let the mentoring begin!

Mentors > How does the mentor/mentee match making process work?

Mentors > When would you choose not to accept the mentoring relationship?

  • We encourage you to accept the mentees that have selected you from your profile. However we understand that the mentoring relationship will be most beneficial if both mentee and mentor are happy with the match. On occasion, mentees are seeking mentors from different industries or vocations to themselves, as they may be considering a change in career. However, after viewing the mentee profile you feel they are an unsuitable match, we would suggest you do not shortlist them.

Mentors > Mentoring Starting Dates

  • As a mentor you have already indicated your availability on your profile. Once a 1:1 mentoring match has been made. You will be able to decide when the first mentoring meeting will take place from a day and time within the next month.

    Q&A mentoring continues on an ongoing basis. Any question submitted to by a mentee is forwarded to the mentor through the PropellHer platform for review.
